If you’ve read many of our posts on traditional marketing, then you’ve no doubt heard us mention Canva. We’ve been remiss not to talk in more detail about how exactly this online gem works! First, we’ll talk about the free version in this post, then we’ll talk about Canva for Work next time.
What is Canva?
Canva is an easy-to-use online design resource that helps you create flyers, posters, social media posts, invitations, presentations and other print and digital collateral pieces in minutes. If you’ve ever struggled to put a good-looking piece together or just didn’t know where to start, then Canva will be your new best marketing friend.
Working with Canva is super simple. The first step is to choose the type of project or design type you’d like to work on. Then you choose a layout. Many are free, but some will cost as little as $1.
The next step is where the designer in you that you never knew was in you begins to emerge. You can choose from different elements to enhance your design such as shapes, photos, lines, charts, frames and more. The text option allows you to include different-sized headings as well as choose from a variety of fonts. You can even change the background color or pattern.

And, of course, as a real estate agent, you’ll want to upload your own photos. Create folders to save them and use them for any of your designs.
Once you’re done, you can share and/or download. It’s really that simple.
The Benefits of Canva for Agents Like You
Canva is a fantastic option for real estate agents. Whether you have mad design skills or not, Canva can save you time designing collateral on your own and save you money from having to hire someone else to do it for you. Or you can have someone on your team who is more skilled take over.
The sheer volume of social media posts, for example, that an agent can go through warrants the use of something like Canva to generate as many tailored yet professional-looking graphics as possible. You can even create banners and covers for all of your social media platforms with the sizes already formatted for you.
Need to put a listing presentation together that reflects your brand? Canva has a template for you.
What about those open house flyers? Create one design through Canva and use that same template over and over again for a distinct style that people will always know is yours.
What Do You Have to Lose?
Once you get started on Canva (which bears repeating is SUPER simple and quick), you’ll probably become addicted to creating anything and everything you can to promote your real estate business. If that weren’t enough, Canva also provides its own online “Design School”, a series of tutorials to help you feel more confident in your design abilities. So it’s pretty much a win-win (one win being for you and one for your wallet).
